Southern Protea Star Side Plate

£35.00

A porcelain side plate decorated with Protea flower detail in sgraffito technique. This plate was slab rolled and then moulded on a hump mould. Carefully painted with porcelain slip in Royal Blue stain before carving into the clay to reveal the contrasting blue and white colours of the clay. This plate can be bought individually or as part of my Southern Protea Star dinner set.

Glaze is dinnerware and dishwasher safe although handmade ceramics prefer a hand wash. All my materials are lead free.

Size: 22cm Diameter (Approx. 8.50 inches)

Inspiration for this design comes from walking fynbos routes in the Overberg region, Western Cape, South Africa where my family resides. Proteas can reach a height of over 2 meters creating extraordinary flowery forest like scenery.

Fynbos (/ˈfeɪnbɒs/; Afrikaans pronunciation: [ˈfɛinbos] meaning fine-leaved plants) is a small belt of natural shrubland or heathland vegetation located in the Western Cape and Eastern Cape provinces of South Africa.
